Import Project

Using the Import Project tool you can add topic hierarchies and configurations of other Doc-O-Matic projects to your current project. In addition, you can replace the topic hierarchy of your current project by the hierarchy of another Doc-O-Matic project. Use this feature to translate your project or to merge projects authored by several writers.

  1. In the Project File box, type the name of the .dox file (Doc-O-Matic project file) the topic hierarchy of which you want to use.
  2. Do one of the following:
    • Click Do not import TOC Information to import only the configurations (but not the topic hierarchy of the project).
    • Click Add, to add the TOC information of the current project. If hierarchical information of a certain topic exists in both projects the information in the current project is replaced by the information in the added project.
    • Click Replace, to overwritten the TOC information of the current project by the TOC information of the added project file.
  3. Select the configurations you want to add to the current project.

To create a new Doc-O-Matic project using all settings of an existing project, save the settings of the existing project as template and select the template in the New Project dialog. The settings include the TOC information.

If you import the topic hierarchy of projects that have been created using Doc-O-Matic v2 or v1 and hierarchical information is still saved in DTX files and not in the project file, these parts of the topic hierarchy can not be imported. To make sure that the whole topic hierarchy is saved in the project file, you need to save each topic using the Editor. Configurations can only be added from v4 projects and later. If you open and save v3 projects in Doc-O-Matic v5 you can add all settings from your v3 projects.
