Including Text from Other Files

In Doc-O-Matic there are two different ways of reusing text in various topics. You can:

  • Insert text snippets that are stored in documentation snippets in your project.
  • Include external text files.
  1. On the Editor tab, in the Insert group, click More .
  2. Click Text Include.
  3. Browse for the the plain text file you want to include. You can include any text files such as .txt, .h files.
  4. Insert the file name or the filename including the complete path.
  5. If you insert the file name without path, add the include path in the Project Manager.
  6. Save the changes. The text of the file is shown in the Topic Preview.
  1. On the Editor tab, in the Insert group, click Snippet .
  2. In the snippet list, select the snippet you want to insert.
  1. Click Snippet , and then click Add Snippet.
  2. In the Add Files to the project dialog box, find the folder that contains the snippet that you want to add to your project.
  3. Select the documentation snippet that you want to add, and then click OK.
  4. All snippets are displayed in the Templates, Snippets & Special Topics Folder at the bottom of the topic hierarchy on the left side of your screen and in the snippet list.
  1. On the View tab in the Views group, click Settings.
  2. Click the General Settings tab.
  3. Select Documentation > Automatic Text.
  4. Browse to the documentation snippet that you want to include in all topics.
  5. For example, you can include an author section or a pre-release note in all topics.
  1. Copy the content of the snippet that you want to rename to the clipboard.
  2. On the View tab in the Views group, click Project Manager.
  3. In the Topic Files folder, select the snippet that you want to remove or rename.
  4. On the Manage tab, in the Files and Folder group, click Remove .
  5. Add a snippet with a new name to your project and paste the content of the old snippet into the new snippet.
  1. On the Manage tab, in the Create Content group, click the New Topic button.
  2. Click New Snippet.
  3. On the Editor tab, in the Topic group, click Save .
  4. In the Add Files to the project dialog box, find the folder where you want to save your new snippet to.
  5. In the Name box enter a name for your snippet and save it.
  6. All snippets are displayed in the Templates, Snippets & Special Topics Folder at the bottom of the topic hierarchy on the left side of your screen and in the snippet list.
