Editing Links

In this section you'll learn how to insert or edit a link to other topics.

  • A native link is a jump to another part of your Help system or your PDF or RTF document.
  • An external link is a jump to targets outside the documentation.
  • Doc-O-Matic links can either be native or external. Native links can go to Topic IDs in your project and Topic IDs stored in an added link database.
  1. On the Editor tab, in the Insert group, click Links .
  2. In the Type box, select Topic.
  3. In the Target box, type the Topic ID of your link target.
  4. Or open the Topic ID Picker, by clicking the browse button.
  5. Do one of the following:
    • In the Text box, type a text for your link.
    • To use the topic ID as link text, leave the Text box empty.
  6. To use a section as anchor in HTML click the Sections arrow and select the section your want to use as anchor for your link.
  7. Links appear blue and underlined.
  8. Doc-O-Matic verifies your links when your save the topic. Broken links appear red.
  9. To follow a native link in your project, right-click and then select Follow Link.
  1. Double-click the link text or place your cursor in the link text.
  2. Right-click and then point to Edit > Convert to Text, to remove your link.
  3. Right-click and then point to Properties, to edit your link.

Notice that Doc-O-Matic links words automatically to matching Topic IDs. For details, see Automatic Linking. In HTML you can automatically create anchors for each section and Top links to the topic title. For details, see Sections.
