Formatting Paragraphs

In addition to formatting blocks of text or single words by clicking , , , , , on the Editor tab in the Character group. To format paragraphs click the Paragraph buttons , , , on the Editor tab in the Paragraph group.

  1. Place your cursor in the paragraph you want to format.
  2. Click the corresponding Paragraph button in the Paragraph group.
  3. Do one of the following:
    • Click the Text button , in the Paragraph group for normal paragraphs.
    • Click the Text button , in the Paragraph group, and then click Heading to apply heading formatting.
    • Click the Text button , in the Paragraph group, and then click Preformat to format paragraphs preformat. No line feeds and white spaces are removed from the text when it is rendered.
    • Click the Text button , in the Paragraph group, and then click the corresponding programming language for code examples in your text. No line feeds and white spaces are removed. Additionally, in the generated documentation the text is rendered using a fixed-pitch font.
    • To set the programming language that is used to syntax highlight the code block do one of the following:
      • Select Code General to use the default settings to syntax highlight the code paragraph. For more information about default settings for syntax highlighting, see Formatting Code.
      • Select a programming language from the Text menu, to set the language manually.
  1. Click in the paragraph you want to align.
  2. Do one of the following:
    • Click Align Center , to center the paragraph.
    • Click Align Left , to left-align the paragraph.
    • Click Align Right , to right-align the paragraph.
    • Click Align Justify , to justify the paragraph.

You can syntax highlight code block in symbol topics and in generic topics. In symbol topics code is syntax highlighted according to the programming language of the symbol. For generic topics you can determine which programming language is used to syntax highlight code blocks. To change the programming language used to syntax highlight you can select a programming language from the Text menu.
